Using the special tools I borrowed from Polaraco,I removed the lower control arm bushing. The rubber was rotting around the edges and swelling. I could have driven the car like this but eventually it would have to be replaced.

Since I rebuilt the entire braking system,I did not feel like removing the brake hose and bleed the system again. So,I removed the backing plate from the knuckle and set it on the frame. Just 4 bolts and besides,I can clean up the knuckle.

You can easily press out the old bushings, and install the new ones at home with a good, large vise and a couple large sockets. I did the bushing on the upper control arms on the D350 truck recently. Took about 30 minutes, to remove the old ones, clean the area, and install the new ones.

Thanks,Brian. The outer sleeve is still stuck in the lower control arm,so the guys at work will get it out and press on my NOS control arm shaft with bushing. I will replace the upper ball joint while the upper control arm is off the car. They are still available and are cheap.

I thought it was easier to replace the upper balljoint with the upper control arm attached to the subframe. Otherwise you have to find a way to hold the arm while wrestling with the big socket and breaker bar.

Yes it is...Definitely!! I had mine in the vise, and then tore my bench out of the wall when trying to replace mine on the wagon.....
