Use a socket that fits right inside the plug and a short extension. You'll find they will go right in. It will only take a few taps and your impact with the hammer will go all the way around the plug.
Just in case, smear some RTV around the edges of the plugs to seal any minor voids that may have developed in the block.

Thanks! I never done that before.I am gonna try to do as much as I can to keep the budget low.LOL!! The manifolds and the remains of the crossover is all that is left of the exhaust. So, it should not be that hard. Mopar was smart in using nut and bolts to attach the manifold to the pipe.Unlike the Chebbies with their doggone ears!!LOL!! [ Edited Tue Sep 05 2006, 06:17PM ]

I was jacking up the car today to start working on the brakes. As I was lifting the rear, the main rear leaf springs broke at the front eyelets.POP! Now I have to change them out.I have located a set of NEW main leafs for 45.00 each!! So,I will tear down my old ones, and add an exrta secondary leaf for good measure.About 5 days delivery through my work's parts supplier. !banana I have been busy collecting parts the past few days.I will be doing some work on my week off work. The drums are in the shop to be machined.I have all the brake parts needed to make them functional again. Maybe I will get to those pesky frost plugs at the same time..
***** I have fresh pics of my big parts scores, and progress pics.Would anybody volunteer to post them??*** Thanks,in advance Later! Leaburn

Wow, Leaburn, keep this up and I'm going to proposition you to go on my payroll as my parts supplier!
Looks like you are going to be spending the winter in your garage, better get a heater, TV and beer frig - and a cot to sleep on when Geraldine gives you your marching orders.
Seriously though, your project is really starting to move ahead. Can't wait till you publish some progress shots.

Thanks guys!! My car buddies I hang out with always rib me for being the only guy they know who can sniff out a Mopar within a 300 mile radius!! LOL!! I racked up about a 1,000 km's on my neighbour's truck in two days, with $90.00 gas.I got it full and had to return it full. All the good sheetmetal/trim came from Jack Forley's in Clayton,NY (Notice how the fenders make the shape of a toilet seat????)The hood and other tiny pieces I got from Nigel at National Moparts.
I removed the master cylinder, flushed out all the lines that did not break. The old rubber hoses and wheel cylinders are junk-full of black crud and rust.I installed new rear brakes, bench bled the new master-but left it off the car for now. The rear drums are no good-square.The front drums are within spec, and are usable, but had "hot spots" For now I will jam the rear drums on to move the car.
While the master is out of the way,I got down and dirty to do the freeze plugs on the left head.It was not easy, but a lot of patience,Coors Light, and a 3 am turn-in made it all the worthwhile.
Bill,I already have a beer fridge in the garage!! Geraldine even bought me a 24 of Coors Light for my week's holiday!!LOL!! She is busy redecorating the kitchen and hallway!! (Just to keep me out of the house!!Good for me!!) TV in garage equals no work done!!LOL! No cot needed--it's a C body, remember?? Besides when wifey says it's time to come in--it's TIME TO COME IN!! Geraldine is known to open the garage door in the middle of winter, and also she found the curcuit breaker that cuts power to the garage!! That's when you know it's time to come in!!LOL!!! ...And the total to date-including the cost of the car and fuel burnt---$1,382.50. The springs are not in yet. I think I will be close to my goal--if not a little over...LOL!! [ Edited Thu Sep 14 2006, 10:21PM ]

I finally got busy on the old Barge after having out of town company for a week. This time I had some help.Rays66 was over to take measurements of the rotted rear window frame so fabricating can commence. We also removed the seats, inspected the floors. Then we proceded to remove the broken rear springs.Boy! those U-bolts sure do pop loudly when they break!! I got the right side spring out and it will be in the shop for a new main leaf, and an extra secondary for good measure.I will get the left out tomorrow.I only broke one bolt in the front spring box.Not bad considering I have been spraying them often--not to mention the time the car spent parked. I would like to thank Rays66 for his help.We are both looking forward to the end result of this car.
As for me posting pics...I am still figuring out how to drag pics into my Photobucket account.I have yet to master the trick to get from Photobucket to Dry Dock...I'm trying.. Cheers!!

This is the kind of stuff that I really enjoy reading. Thanks for the time you've put into relating this tale. And thanks to those who have posted pictures so that we can all get the real view of this project.
