After six months of winter slumber..it is time to get back on the Newport Custom. I know many of you missed reading the updates on the car's progress. I am humbled by all of the praises and support I recieved. Thanks to all! !thumb Thanks to Scott for making the BoaB threads a permanent feature here on the Dock. And not to mention being in the calender this year--even though she is not finished!
Now back on topic... Even though I stopped working on the car during the winter months,It did not stop me searching for parts and other bargains that may arise. I gained a pile of NOS and good used parts.---Plus 20 pounds from sitting on my tush lurching the 'net.. For all the schtuff I gathered check out this linky; http://www.moparfins.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=66&PN=11 The big ticket items I scored are C body HP logs one cheap and the other FREE! rechromed rear bumper for 350.00.We all know how much that sucker can cost to get done! I had a quote of $900.00 just for the rear from a poplular Canadian source.. NOS wheel lip moldings, all kinds of little stuff that I needed. I have the headliner ordered and on it way. I bought parts from fellow Dockers and other members from other sites as well.
Tomorrow Ray is going to be here.We are going to assess what we need to finish from last year and set up our plan for this year. I am hoping to make big progress this year. With all the parts I had gathered all we ned to do is buckle down and get back to work. I spent today cleaning out the garage,re-organizing my tool box which was such a disaster from scrapping the 2 door in September. In conclusion, the shop is ready,I am ready,Ray is ready, and the car is waiting!! I will post updates as much as possible. Leaburn

No snow! !banana Today we got a good chunk done. We made a list of things to do and actually acheived some goals. 1.Grind floor patches from underneath so they are not as noticeable 2.Chaulk seams in replacement panels in the rear of car. 3.Scrape the underbelly, remove any loose undercoating.Use a soft-wire brush attached to a drill to remove anty surface rust. We decided to leave any good undercoating alone-just freshen it up. 4.Epoxy any bare metal underneath 5.Paint any areas underneath that were body color. 6.Undercoat the belly and inner wheel wells.

I got as far as # 3. I started underneath where I left off last year and worked my way towards the front.I got as far as the door pillars. What a messy job-but at least I got somewhere today! Ray came to town and did some welding touching up a few spots that needed some tweaking and /or got overlooked last year. Tomorrow I am hoping to get to the firewall.

We need to finish the under carriage which includes installing the gas tank and rear axle. Then we can get the wheels back on her so we can start hanging body panels.

A lot of scraping, buffing and a few other things went on this weekend. Knocked out the loose undercoating in the area shown. Not perfect, but it is clean and I know it will not rust.. Brake line bracket will be removed and blasted.Right now it is holding the brake line out of the way..

I tried to emulate the factory application of sealer. Originally it was applied by a line worker's hand or by brushing it on. Using Mono,a spreader and an old car snow brush that I took apart It looks almost like the factory job!!

I tried to do the speckle paint in the trunk but ran out.. This trunk is huge!! LOL! I will re-do it the next day or so. The unpainted area was where I stood to paint the tailpanel. I run a large fan and my garage door opened.I do wear a mask at all time when painting.
