My radiator is ready to be bailed out of the shop.$320.00 OUCH!.As mentioned before. The rad was tweaked by some idiot towing the car it was in.Pat's Rad managed to straighten the main tank.It will have the proper markings and part #'s on it for a 4bbl 383 C body car.
I reviewed the entire BOAB thread from August of 2006 right to now. Total money spent since it's inception close to 3 thousand dollars.Still not finished and in pieces.Plus the set goal cost is again being surpassed. I was hoping to meet my goal of having the car on its wheels by the end of this year. Realistically,a goal I cannot meet. I have the New Yorker stored away next door,so that takes the pressure off of me to make room in the garage. That gives me a lot more room to mess around in there. On the bright side,I am gathering parts as I need them.Lot of parts popping up that are no longer available and are one shot deals.
I have decided this winter I will not work on the car for economical reasons. The cost of heating the garage is very expensive. After all it is a hobby and I do enjoy what I do. My job has become very busy and demanding. We even set an all-time sales record last month. As a result,I come home exhausted. Today is my day off and planned to do nothing. It is nice to do nothing once in a while.. As soon as I get a warm day and the "itch" can no longer be ignored I will get on it.. I will keep updating this thread from time to time,as usual.
I cannot stress how thankful I am for all those who had supported me with this project. The parts, hints, tips, and advice is invaluable. Most importantly, the people I have met and new friendships made through it all-- priceless.... That my friends is what this hobby is all about...... !thumb Sincerely,Leaburn I'll keep ya posted! [ Edited Sat Nov 17 2007, 04:46PM ]

I need a break from my job so I can play with old cars!! !stars LOL!! Besides,my utilities increase by 2/3 during winter.I have an effecient gas forced air in the house. That is good. The garage has a 240 volt 3600 watt construction heater that can easily add $200.00 on top of my already $300.00 bill each month. That is bad. In this city, they combine natural gas, hydro, water, sewer all into one bill.Sux. !biker I am not pulling the plug on the BoaB project..just on the heater in the shop.... !crazy

Yes,Bill.I did.But my house insurance premium will double. They consider it a "high risk". Even if I do put in some kind of heat source, and not tell them,if the place burns down,I am not covered-go figure. Any way you look at it,I will still have to pay someone somewhere. Even with the electric heat, there were times I checked the garage to make sure everyting is ok. I do have a built-in chimney in the garage and someday I hope to get a forced air furnace cheap.Natural gas or convert it to propane. The darn enviromental laws here states you must pay a professional to install an oil tank for an oil burning furnace. I can get an oil burning furnace cheap-or even free. BUT Tank must be installed at a cost of $1,600.00. I cannot justify that cost.It is a rip. I remember when you could get a tank, copper line and hook 'er up yourself.

You will do better for a break. Ive found you cant keep putting in loads of hours indefinitly. The cost is another thing its surprising how it adds up. I havn't kept a tally of mine so ignorance is bliss And finally the finish date, when people ask I just keep saying next year ..... for about the last four years. Look at it this way, one day you run out of things to weld paint, put back together.

Funny you said that,Ed.Yet is is so true. After I finished the New Yorker and driven it for a year with nothing to do to it,I found myself itchy to start another project.Part of the disease,I guess. Indeed other costs that spin off from the car can rise without awareness. That's what happened to my utilities . I love my hobby and still passionate about my cars.I'm just gonna let old man winter get in and get out ASAP so I can get started on the BoaB again!!

Leaburn, if you've got a gas line into the house, a gas furnace, gas infra-red heater or a free standing stove will work. We just added a big sun-room on our house and had a stove installed. It has a thermostat which I keep at about 45 F when we aren't using the room, but crank it up when we want to sit outside. It works really well. If you ever decide to sell the house, move it into your living or family room and you'll get you money back.
