I was 10 miles from the epicenter of the Loma Prietta quake when it happened. I was at Boulder Creek for a Minister's gathering. It was fun....
Moe, I have towed my '70 Newport and Steve's '66 300 on a trailer I rented from U-Haul. You need to get their 12 foot one. The car will have overhang, but the tralier will do the job.
Heck, buy my lunch and pay for my gas and I'll drive to Modesto to get your car for you. Seriously, it's no big deal.

Hey Snotty, thanks for the offer. I'm going to go another route, and have the 300 towed to a shop in Modesto, and let them do an inspection and see if they can make it "roadworthy" for a one-way trip
Maybe you can be my "spotter" on the trip back home, and I'll cover fuel and lunch then, 'K?
So you were at Mount Hermon for the Loma Prieta quake? Wow, that's a bit too close for my liking...San Jose was *JUST* barely far enough away then...and as it was, I was riding 8 miles round trip on a bike to work as a board-op at a business radio station...ah, memories

No, I was at Redwood Christian Park in Boulder Creek (Hermon is in Felton), but I am glad to meet someone who knows where these places are!
It was a frightening experience, but not the most in my life. Having a outside axle bearing cut the axle in half while driving my Dad's Motorhome on I-5 holds that honor!
So now, are you asking me to ride with you to Modesto to pick the car up when it's ready? Fresno has a great In-n-Out - I'm game for a 4X4!

Snotty, sure! As a matter of fact, there's an In-And-Out less than 5 minutes from my apt. complex, just off Hwy 41.
I had my 300 dropped off today at the shop in Modesto for a check up. I hope to hear from the place later this week with some recommendations. I might just go ahead and see about getting a new gas tank and sending unit, as there are tanks available via Quanta Products, you just gotta know if there are any vents on your original tank (mine is "Sans Vents).
I'll send ya a PM when I have a better time established for picking up my beastie

Snotty, actually, the one I was referring to is further up 41, near the Riverwalk.
I found out my car has the 2 vent tank...D'oh! As Ron White says, "You ever been WRONG?? I have.."
Anyway, I ordered a new tank, sending unit, filler neck grommet, sender fuel filter and 1 chrome seat adj. knob from Mitchell MOtor PARts while my car is at the shop...all for a hair over $ 400 bucks!
The tank I scored for just under $ 160, as they have an Ebay auction, and I told the guy on the phone that I have a time crunch issue, and couldn't wait for the end of the auction.
He graciously said he's honor the price if I could provide the auction number, which I gave to him.
Normally that sucker costs almost $ 450 new from Quanta! [ Edited Wed Mar 01 2006, 05:44PM ]
