Congrats again Gary, your car is amazing!
Sue and I had a great time in Idaho! Sandpoint Idaho sure knows how to put on a heck of a car show with the whole town actively participating. Sue and I were privileged to be part of the cruise as passengers in Paul's 66 Chrysler survivor. The car show was great with lots and lots of very well done cars. I was surprised to see a large number of cars were from Alberta.
At the end of the show we hoped but I don't think believed that Gary's C-body would fair well against the best of Ford and GM and my optimism fell even lower as they announced the 4th, 3rd and 2nd place cars. When the announcer got the words out "and in 1st Place a 1966 Chryster Windsor owned by ..." I watched both Gary and Paul both turn almost white and wobble like they were standing on rubber legs. Pandemonium broke out in our group No sooner had Gary collected his trophy and we were all still cheering and back slapping, they announced Gary's Challenger won 3rd place in it's class. Well, what can I say other than Wow it was awesome! A few minutes later one of Paul's friends 55 Chev also won against a bunch of stiff competition in a very well populated class. I forget exactly his win, it was either 2nd of 3rd.
I was personally very pleased to see these wins. Each of these three cars were done by Paul. Gary's had been built from the ground up and I think a lot of the work done on the Challenger and Chev was Paul as well. For the first time in a long while I've started to think good thoughts about my Fury project and to actually consider the light at the end of the tunnel is not a train but maybe a trophy shining in my head lights!
So I gave Paul carte blanche to make it happen. After Idaho I wandered up to Kelowna for a few days, then Vancouver, then finally back to Calgary last Wed. While I was out and about Paul started work on my car. Yesterday he gave me a status report. Tthe car has been completely torn down, body is on a rotisserie, engine off to the machine shop, bumpers off to be chromed. In short a ton of work has been done and rather than clutter up Gary's thread I'll make you wait for details and pictures until I figure out how to upload pictures on the dock. (hint - jab - poke Scott! )
A bonus, years ago I put the DMV ownership and license plate away "in a safe place" and I've spent 30 years trying to remember where the heck I put them. Well, we recently bought a new house and moved out of our old home of 37 years, this morning my wife is sorting out files and found my paperwork! Being a pack rat, I even found the old licence plates that I had first put on the Fury in Sep 1974 when I moved to Alberta. How cool is that, plates 39 years old and their plate renewal notice for 1982 asking for a $30 renewal fee to cover 1983. I wonder what the DMV will do with that!
Anyhow, stay tuned, a new thread will get built for my project and it will have lots of pictures!
And Peter, cleaning my garage is not an option, it's already clean! But, there is a slight problem, in my old house I had a basement workshop rougly 12' wide and 40' long and I had a double car garage full of Fury and another workshop. The new house has a small utility room downstairs and a triple car garage. Unfortunately the utility room filled quickly and the garage has barely room enough for the Jeep. I'm somewhat at loss to explain it, I donated a huge amount of stuff to various charities, another huge amount to landfill and shipped the Fury complete with many boxes of parts to Paul. I'm beginning to suspect all this stuff has turned into a life form and is breeding like crazy when the lights go off. I need to start building benches, storage cabinets, shelving and maybe enen try leaving the lights on 24/7!
