Thought I would share the progress in three weeks. Here is the new subframe finished, Steering, Brakes, suspension. There is allot more done than the picture shows. Last night I tore down the 5.2 Magnum and got that ready to go to the shop. I brought the donor truck for the motor and trans home last weekend.
And Cotter Pins for safety
And for those of you that know about the fiasco with the green. . . This is the green I got away with. Not too bad. Better than that _(_)(^^%^%(*7 Original green YEEP
And at my age, I'm paying the price for all this hussling

And for todays fiasco, I managed to get the rear out, clean the back half of the under carriage (Front half is done already) and use liberal ampounts of rust converters. Tomorrow, I get to crawl under there and spray POR on it and then a finish coat of Rustoleum.
Plan for this week is to freshen the rear, complete new brakes, paint the new custom springs and put them on. Maybe by Thursday, the rear will be back under there.
Should have it running by the end of May. Then it goes to the body shop and then the bottle neck. . .Upholstery

Steve, I'm replaceing my rear springs and shocks right now. How are your cleaning the bottom. I have undercoating on mine and started scraping by hand. Was going to use power washer but felt it might rip through body plugs and weak spots I haven't found yet.
What rust converter are U using?
My rear end is still in and will stay connected during this project. This job sucks so I'm looking for a smarter way to clean the car up under there. 35 yrs of Ohio weather doen't come off easy.

Since I have not been keeping up with what has been happening on this board as much as I am now, 71F3 what are your plans for the fury?? Are you going to swap all the computer and EFI, motor and tranny stuff from the donor truck?
I want to do this upgrade to my fury as well so I'll be watching your progress very closely.
Were did you pick up the truck? What kind of money for it, if you don't mind me asking.

Hey Brian
No I'm not moving the EFI from the Plymouth. I took it out months ago because I didn't get the fuel economy from it. I'm getting 18 average mixed driving with an Edelbrock 600 CFM on it now. I was getting 10 before, but it tore up the roads then too!
Here's what you do. If your Plymouth is an LA, you'll gain dramatically. Find yourself a wrecked 92 or 93 Dodge pick up with the 5.2 magnum in it. Don't get the 360. Get the whole truck. I am putting the engine and trans in this (About 2 weeks and the motor and trans will be ready) You need all the front mount accessories on the engine, wiring harness, pooter, throttle cable, Everything. Take the Y pipe too. It looks like it will fit in the Polara with the better flowing Magnum exhaust manifolds.
I got lucky on the truck. . .I paid 800 for it, it was a running totaled truck. I sold parts from it and then the whole truck for 1200, so it paid for itself and the fuel to go get it. I got my engine and trans for free!
The magnum will drop right in You'll have to fab a trans mount. The drive shaft will have to be cut 2". Well maybe the one from the truck will work, they're both 122" wheel base. Don't know yet.
You'll have 35 more Ft Pounds of torque and 15 more HP than the stock 360. But you automatically get 35% more fuel economy. Why did I do this? I had a 92 Dakota that was a real snorter. Even with the 4 X 4 I got 21 on the highway. Take away 1000 pounds, loose the converter, go from 252 rear to 373, and increase the aerodynamics, Should get 25 to 26 in theory. Maybe more.
The whole project, New Interior, new front end, steering, rear springs, all new brakes, rear sway bar, new engine and trans, Complete paint and body work (Sending it out) will cost around 6000. It's costing me more because I had to drop a dime into a new sub frame. I am also putting in aftermarket power door locks and windows with a keyless remote. That alone was 1400. But I went for the best too. 2 door would be less.
Actually, it'll be pretty easy. My biggest battle is dealing with the small pockets of rust on the heavy hardware in the back right now. [ Edited Tue May 02 2006, 05:42PM ]

No young curious kids running around? Seems like everytime I jack up a car the kids seem pop out of the woodwork.

Ahhh Now I see your concerns. . .
Nah, they don't come down here. .. . It's well into my yard. It's just me and Stitcherbob coming around occasionally. My other buddy comes over when there is something heavy to do, other than that. . . . It's very safe.
