I just got a custom cam ground by Comp. It's made for low to mid range torque since it's getting stuffed in a 5100+ lb Imperial. The 261/463 lobes sound a bit tame but they should do the trick nicely. The Edelbrock heads will help things a bit too.
As long as they can grind it on their standard blank it won't cost any more than an off the shelf unit.
Ok, maybe they don't grind cams but they design cams for mopars. No chevy profiles or duration. They have a cam questionnaire you fill out & they will spec a cam for you. Of course you can do what you want but I found them to be very knowledgeable with mopar motors & making them run right.

That is just a tad hotter than the stock (Non HP) 383/440 cam which was 256/260 at around .430" lift - it should power your Imp nicely.

What can would you guys reccommend for a stock 383 4bbl in a 66 Polara? I have a stock 727, pw brakes and a 2.76 posi. It's a Sunday driver that I like to do an occasional burnout with.

One comment as regards cam profiles. I've measured up a couple of cams from different manufacturers, and despite claims to the contrary, neither had a Mopar profile. Despite their claims, the only thing that makes them a "Mopar profile" is the fact that they are ground on a Mopar blank.

The stock mopar hp cam would be a good choice and depending on your compression maybe advanced a couple of degrees.Otherwise a short duration cam like the comp xe 256 orxe 262 or similar grind from another manufacturer.

I was looking at some of the combos offered through summit racing. They are considerably cheaper than the purple shaft. My thought is, if I can get similar returns for 1/2 the price, why not? Can anyone give me some specs that I could look for, it would be greatly appreciated.

I've used both the #sum 6400 and #sum 6401 as well as the Mopar "road runner" profile, the Summit combos offer good value, I'd recommend the 6400 in a c-body, it would give good low end torque which is what you want to get these big boats moving, you might give up a tiny bit of performance compared with the Mopar or Comp or brand name grinds but you'd save a hundred bucks, my $0.02
I have a Comp Extreme Energy XE268H in my 383-great mid/upper RPM power, a little short on low end torque. The next time I feel like playing with the engine, I'll put in a Lunati Voodoo 262/268 for a little more torque down lower in the power band where I normally drive.
