Thanks Mike. I had read on TTi's site that they were pretty easy to install and they have model specific headers so maybe there have been some improvements? either way. thanks for the input. now i just have to win the lottery lol.

my cheapo b body headers fit pretty well from underneath on the 383 - never would on an RB. My pass collector wraps under and around the t-bar and I've never caught it on the pavement with a stock ride height, so you should be fine.

Just a little update: I originally used Mr.Gasket copper gaskets to seal the headers to the block. These have an embossed ring around each port that's supposed to crush to conform to any imperfections in the mating surfaces to help seal.
The alignment of the ports on the flanges of the Schumacher headers is a little off, so these embossed areas did not all line-up. I checked by laying the gaskets on the head and on a set of exhaust manifolds, and it is the headers that have a problem, not the gaskets.
On a few ports the gaskets did not crush properly on one edge of the port, so I had small exhaust leaks. I couldn't just fix this by shifting the gasket side-to-side either, because different ports were out in the opposite direction.
Anyhow, I pulled the engine last fall because I was doing some unrelated work on the front-end. I just buttoned everything back together using Mr.G Ultraseal gaskets, which are a flat composite gasket without the fancy embossed ridge design. Hopefully problem solved. [ Edited Thu Jun 07 2012, 08:44AM ]

I'm putting TTi's on mine soon, but the engine is out of the car already, but i'm sure you can't put it all in with headers bolted up? That'd make it too easy! Will let you know how things go.

When installing Hedman shortys I discovered something related to Mike66's mismatch. Don't know if mine was between teh header and port or not, but it boiled down to the copper gasket being too narrow to seal, a corner of the header tube (at the flange) was not supported by gasket (by about 1/16"). Couldnt' move the gasket around enough without making a hole somewhere else. The gaskets would've worked fine with a manifold, but not with the reduced sealing area of header tubes. Ironically, the passenger side header sealed up fine with that gasket on the first try.
At that point I paid a lot more attention to the gasket design. Most seem to have holes larger than the ports (Max Wedge size?) but I found 1 brand that matches the small production exh port very well. Can't remember the mfg name, but when I discovered them I quickly bought a few sets in case they go disco.

BTW, Mike - good writeup. I'm guessing you'll be posting a link to this thread for awhile when the never-ending 'what headers?' threads pop up. I did it for awhile with that Hedman thread you linked to, but after about the 20th time I got weary of it and stopped.

Well I installed TTis headers into a 66 300, had the motor out, did it on my own bugger of a job on your own...I would not like to try doing this with the motor in!
I also installed the 3 inch full system, I had to remake from the collector to H pipes section on the pass side with new mandril bends and new flange plate, as the collector was about 25mm out too close to the auto and this caused the whole system to be out and hit the floor on the tunnel area.
Then I had to remake / modify the H section and the reposition the cross over, it took a few hrs and added around a 100 bucks in gear. The system from TTi is not a straight bolt in and with out the modifications would hit and bang the floor pan and torsion bars..
It also droned really bad, I installed 3 inch Hotdogs in the rear tail section and dnya matted the floor and boot, All together now its ok.
Only other thing is I run the car low and the pass collector flange does hang a bit low, it could have been made higher.

As dan said, "what a pain to fit!" TTi's not as good as they're made out to be, i had to shorten drivers side collector to be able to have 3" pipe fitted, so now have 3" belly pipes with an "X" pipe into Hooker Aerochamber mufflers and 2.5" tail pipes. Will post pics tonight.
Great post. I thought TTI headers were supposed to be a perfect fit. I will have to re think getting theres if that is the deal. Sounds like they fit as well as my headmans. just a question. Why go with 3" pipes? I could see for a race motor. But there is a reverse gain for the street. You loose torque with them? I know it is a high school thing here to put 3" pipes on every thing. That and flowmasters. &|
