G'day all! Just wondering if anyone has tried or have fitted water methanol injection to their engines? I'm considering it as my car pings pretty bad so i have to back off the timing, even though i'm running premium fuel. Cheers!
I have now or have had in the last several years several 10 plus to one compression ratio'd 413's and two 440's. The Altitude here in Colo Spgs is higher than Denver and lower than ABQ. The only "pinging" ( Fiat Farm Tracktor Rattling ) that I ever get is when The Timing is set wrong or using lower grades of fuel.
I agree ,sounds like you need to start from square one,,don't go destroying your car for a poorly tuned one,,get out the book and begain with TDC,stock carb adjustments, and fresh plugs ect.
And since you have to back off the timing to get it to stop means your tuning is out of wack.

3:1? ok, i'll try that, just not practical for everyday use here in Oz, Avgas is hard to get and illegal for "street use". We're soooo restricted here for a lot things!
Do some research on cams, there are cams that wil give you the power you want with your stroker and allow you to run higher compression and run on pump gas,

I've used WI injection on a turbocharged Miata and it works really well and has been reliable. The key to doing WI is to have automatic safeties that can detect when there is a problem and change the engine's tune automatically to avoid detonation. This is easy to do on a turbo Miata with a custom-programmed ECU, but I don't think it's a realistic option for you.
Soooo . . . you built an engine that needs race fuel. I guess you need race fuel.
A different head design could also promote faster burning and resist det (old 906 heads don't do much in this regard). Even with the newest head designs, you typically don't see much above 10:1 on new performance cars unless they are direct injection engines.
I've never heard of cams designed to reduce detonation like Dale mentioned. Be curious what you find on that.
You may have did what you did to achieve 500 Cubes and then added the Cam Shaft Spec'd as it is. But as said by Dale and use a Cam Spec'd at the RPM's that you mostly operate at. Another way to say the same thing is to use a Spec'd Cam that has much less Duration and Over-Lap. To some this may relate to saying to use a Cam Spec'd such as "A RV".
To Port and Polish The Heads is great for a engine that does not operate on local Streets or High Ways. Let the same engine operate in this manner and The Fuel Mixture is not mixed very good ( think of a stream flowing with a smooth bottom vs one with rocks or bolders in the path ) ( Thank You Rick ).

You could probably fiddle with a race gas mix to find what gives you what you need.I said 3:1 but what I mean is 3 parts 93(in my case) and one part 110.its really 4:1 sorry. It works for me but its not a daily driver and aviation gas can be found at mom and pop stations here in florida for the air boats around town.aviation gas is also good for a car that sits because it doesn't break down as fast as regular auto gas due to higher regulation standards for airplanes
