So I had to change out my starter relay- I go to Napa and get it ordered- no problem. It should look just like this:
I pick it up and open it up later and find that the whole relay housing is riveted to the mounting plate completely upside-down! (With the main stud at the bottom and the 2 blade connectors on the top.) The way the mountin plate is oriented, it can only fit on the car one way.
aggravating to say the least.
Anyone else seen this?!?! I'm like what's the deal?
So what I did, rather than hassle around trying to get a proper one, was just bend up the tabs holding the relay in the housing, slide out the mechanism, and turn it around. I slid it back in the right way and folded the clamps back down. Good as new, right? Now my cables line up the right way, and the little black plastic shield fits the right way.
You just can't get anything made 'right' these days I guess. [ Edited ]

C body starter relays are unique. It is a good chance you got the universal "generic" relay that fits all models. Not to mention they were made in India where they never seen a C body ever. Look for the Standard/Blue Streak SR-107 You did the right thing.

Thanks for bringing that to our attention. I grabbed both my SR107 and NOS ones for comparison--you are right! So folks,if you get a replacement-good chance you will have to "flip" it out of the housing.

INDEED, I replaced my starter relay with a replacement sourced from NAPA...The "guts" were installed upside down!! Just switched it around and no problem. [ Edited Sat Oct 17 2009, 01:06PM ]
