How do I remove the glue under my vinyl top? I am thinking sense I am going to be repainting the car it would look better to take it off sense it is toasted and just paint the roof too. Is there any way to make the process easy like is there any thing I can pout on the old glue to soften it or do I just have to scrape it off? Any one have any tips on how to do this? [ Edited ]

Years ago on my Dart I just used Lacquer thinner & fine steel wool & it all came right off. I think I used the same thing on the Fury, too long ago can't remember! LOL!
Great to Know! I need to do that to the Fury before I put the new one on. I was going to just sand it off.......May be to soft to sand off. I wonder if I have to get it all off if I'm putting on a new top. Wouldn't the new glue soften/reactivate the old glue?

I use 3M General Purpose Adhesive Remover. If someone is installing a new top and the glue is still uniform and tight, we just spray the new glue over the old....sticks better that way.

Actually I just remembered, I got the old glue loose & used a putty knife to get a lot of it off & them used the fine steel wool to finish up.
Acetone works good too, probably better than Lacquer thinner but it does evaporate faster too.
The Darts roof was perfect even with having sat outside so it cleaned up real easy. The Fury had lots of rust in it's roof even being 2 years younger.
We always paint the roof with some single stage enamel to put or just the paint to be used on the rest of the car to keep the roof in good shape, Scuff the paint just before putting the new top on to give some tooth for the glue. The factory usually just primered the roof's that got a Vinyl top.
