Bill, you bring up an excellent point! I measured the pedal pushrod lengths and the 73 one is 1/2" longer than the 66 one. Methinks that would move the pedal out 1" or more.
I'm thinking of making a spacer from 1/4" aluminum plate to move the booster away from the firewall. That will reduce the effect of the longer pushrod by half. I'd make it thicker, but I don't think the studs that bolt the booster to the firewall would be long enough then.

Yes, good point indeed. On mine, it didnt push the pedal out much, as it was already up against the stop. Instead it ''preloaded'' the booster, so it ended up getting changed.
Does anyone know what would have happend if the car had been driven with the booster always being pushed in this 1/2" or so?

Front brakes would drag. we had to adjust the pushrod on the 65 to get them to release. Dragged bad at first but a bit of adjusting got it out but then the pedal was too low so did it again & got the pedal height good with no drag on the fronts.
40yearoldFuryIII wrote ... I had the same issue when I swapped out mine in my 68 Fury. I went from power drums to disks. The booster I got from AutoZone was for a 68 with front power disks. It was the only one I could find anywhere for less than $175. ($105) I did not have to grind out my firewall though. I did just the mounting plate and all is good! The booster I got is not one with an adjustable rod so I didn't have to mess with it and it works fine.
I used the same one when I switched to discs from power drums and it fit perfectly without having to do anything to the firewall or bracket.

Here is a closeup pic of the shoulder on my 71-73 single-diaphragm booster that's making it a bear to install in my 66.
And here is the spacer that I made out of 1/4" aluminum plate to move the booster away from the firewall to reduce the amount that it messes with the brake pedal position. Center hole is 2.25" diameter.

There is a styrofoam gasket between the metal plate and the firewall. When I removed it, I was able to save this gasket. If anyone tries this and their gasket gets ruined, I scanned mine so it could be used as a template. Outside dimensions are 5.25" x 4.5".
