Finally I did it! I don't believe the difference it makes when I changed my 2 barrel to a 4 barrel. It started right up with no problems I had to modify the throttle and the transmission kick down with new brackets that I made
The only problem that I have now it my chrome air filter kit, I can't put it on because the throttle linkage hits the bottom of the air cleaner pan. Is there a spacer that I can get to fit between the carb and the air filter? I have to raise it about 1 1/2 inch.to clear the bottom of the filter.

Hey Robert, you've been busy! Nothing like a 4 bbl and if you can stay off the secondaries you'll probably get better gas milage to boot.
Don't know of any thing to raise an air cleaner that high, an inch and a half is a big hike, maybe even high enough to hit the hood. Maybe you can redesign the linkage or cut a clearance hole in the bottom of the air cleaner? Just a thought.

Hey Bill I guess an 1 1/2 is kind of high, I need about 3/4 of an inch to clear it. You know Bill I didn't believe the difference there was with a 4 barrel. It started right up and ran great, just like the person said when I bought the edelbroke carb. He told me all I would have to do is install it and no need to adjust anything. He was right.
If I can't get a spacer I will see about cutting the bottom, it still might not work. it is a chrome plate top and bottom with the air filter sandwiched in between.shouldn't be to much of a problem the hard part is done
Bill do you know if they make spacers for that? or maybe I will have to make one myself.

Robert,
I am not sure where you can find a spacer, but I can probably tell you why your air filter interferes with the throttle linkage. Edelbrock carbs all come with a "universal" throttle lever which is primarily a Chevrolet design. It is taller than a Chrysler lever, and its offset is different.
Measure your hood clearance (as best you can) with the present air cleaner installed so that you can see how much more you can raise the air cleaner. Another suggestion might be to try to locate an air cleaner whose base is contoured to clear your throttle lever. I don't recommend cutting the base you have.

Thanks for the information, I can raise it about 2 inches if I have to. I just checked it and I need about another 3/4 of an inch to clear it. The rim is 5 1/8 inch Dia. I was going to see if I could make something up to fit on it that would raise it about an inch.

You can buy plastic spacers, Mr Gasket sells em. Not my first choice.
My guess is you have a drop base chrome air cleaner. Might cost ya some time but hit the stores and look for one that is flat as opposed to the universal drop base type.
I used to have a full size gmc van and it had a Q-jet.That stock spacer between the carb and filter housing was about 2" dont remember if they are the same diam though.Pick a part yard should have plenty.Anyone else know if the housings are the same diam.Glen

Yea it does drop down, I think I will try and make one from some stainless steel I have. It is about 1" wide and 6 feet long. If I can roll it ok I can weld it. The bottom of the air filter base is that sites on the carb is 5 1/8 .
