Have you ever thought of going to an electronic system, this was the best thing i ever did to my older dodges.Fuel mileage will pick up.It's win-win all the way. When something goes wrong with you're vehicle after that, you can most of the time rule out the ign.Don't quote me on that though.Pointsasaurus don't belong under the hood unless it's a show car.Glen

I'm gonna get a new set of points and condenser tomorrow... it backfired through the carb on the way home tonight and is popping driving down the road more than ever before...

Did you look inside the cap for carbon tracks like I suggested? Also look close on both sides for cracks or carbon traces. Seen that a dozen times. Get the cap made by Standard Ignition. They make the best one next to going to a High Performance cap

The cap looked good... I cleaned up the rotor just 'cause it was out... There did seem to be some oil on everything.. almost like a seal in the dizzy is leaking.. not a ton but just small amount covering everything..
Sounds like the bushing in the housing is shot.I can mail you a control box and elec. voltage reg. if you want,I,even got a pre 70 elec. reg.if you need it ,then you don't have to change you're wiring too much.I'll send it collect mail.Free is good,p/u a dist. Put it on a machine and get it zero'ed in and good times will be here again.Glen

... I changed the points, and discovered that the AVS was leaking fuel from various gaskets..... so I getting it rebuilt this week and swapped on the thermoquad from the Race car... I didn't know that it had been modded for racing so i drove the car to my mechanic ( who I'm lucky to say is the head of the Western Ontario Mopar Club).. He adjusted it and we found that it has an internal leak in it so it will have to be taken apart after I put the AVS back on... I'll just limp around for now until the AVS is finished..
We did check the timing and discovered that we had 18 initial and 35 total... the total was fine but that was too much initial for the vacuum advance so we unplugged it and left it.......and it seems that the little backfire noise is gone now...
I should get my carb back this week...
Remember that I'm running a Mallory Ignition box so all I'd have to do is get an Electronic Dizzy and I'm ready to go... I'm thinking about saving so a new one instead of a swap meet or used one.. then at least I know that the bushings etc. will be good...
