The last few days I've noticed some weird things driving the Windsor...
Every once and a while I can here a little pop.. like a small misfire when I drive at a constant speed.. it doesn't do it while I'm accelerating... It's not a loud pop.. but is noticable...
I'm wondering if it time for a new set of points... or maybe can this be a fuel thing... I'm running a AVS..
I'm not up for blowing out another set of mufflers....

Well first of all you have to align the framastan with the whatchamacallit, then you need to eyeball the steering wheel with the right rear bumper bolt.

'65Windsor,
Sounds like either a timing issue or a lean-running issue. Check for: --Timing chain slop. --Correct distributor timing. --Vacuum leaks. --Fuel pump output. --Fuel line restricted or collapsed internally (no sharp bends). --Stuck metering pistons in carb. --Too little restriction in exhaust, hence scavenging.
Or the wrinklerod might be wrapped around the kreppenstrait. If all else fails, check the muffler bearings.

'65Windsor,
If yoiu can hear it in the mufflers, I'm betting on either a vacuum leak or too little backpressure in the exhaust. If the mufflers are too unrestricted and/or you have put 2 1/2"+ diameter pipes behind them, you can expect to hear some backfire (scavenging) when you let off the gas. I have even experienced this being caused by eliminating the factory "dog leg" near the end of the pipe on our '71 300.
In either case, what you hear is usually the result of too much raw oxygen passing through the hot exhaust system and spontaneously igniting the residual unburned fuel, sort of like a downstream air injection reactor system. At least, that is my understanding of why this happens.

The engine has 4000 miles on it... evreything including the heads where remanufactured... well except the carb..
I'm running the stock log exhaust manifolds into 2 1/4 dual exhasut through dynomax super turb mufflers, 2 1/4 pipes out..
I've only been hearing this noise for about a week..
I put in a used set of points out of a spare dizzy I last summer...when the condensor let go..
The pop when I lift is not what I'm worried about... I know it would do that... it's the pop when I hold the pedal at a constant speed... it is really noticeably above 65MPH ( about 3000 rpm)..

Well I pulled the dizzy cap today... and found that there was barely any gap on the points..... I cleaned the points and reset them to 18 and I'll take it for a drive tonight to see if that was the problem..
