Rather than crimping the female side, hard to do properly since the metal has some spring properties, I usually lightly tin the male spade with a bit of solder. The solder repairs any bad spots and provides just enough extra thickness to make a solid connection. In really dirty locations, like connections to side marker lights, I coat the finished connection with nail polish to seal it.
