Has anybody put a 518 in their c-body? I saw a post on Moparts into a late b-body and there's no mention of any trans tunnel sheet metal surgery. I'm just wondering if it could be easy to swap one in a C with little hacking? (trans crossmember being the only fabrication required).
Well, they're basically the same components internally as a 727 or even a 48RE found behind the big diesel Ram pickup engines... so, the planetaries can be upgraded to 5 and 6 pinions from a 48RE, more clutches in the clutch packs, HP bands, shift kit, etc just like a built 727. They do live behind hopped up diesels pushing 600+ HP (and more torque than most 440's can ever hope to make), so performance parts aren't an issue, and with a JW Ultra-Bell or adapters from JVX racing, or other places, mating one to an B/RB should be no problem.
Cost-wise, I think that they're quite a bit more expensive than a 727... but about the same as getting a Gear Vendors or some other OD trans...
I'm mostly worried about the tailhousing/floor pan/trans mount issues. Short of finding a trans to try myself, I was hoping someone had done it before.
