This 66 New Yorker 6-window on eBay right now is similar to mine except it's black exterior vs. my dark blue, it has power locks which mine doesn't, it has AM only vs. mine AM/FM, it's missing A/C, and mine has tilt/tele steering which this one doesn't.
I've never seen the power door locks installed, so that's interesting. I thought I had all the parts to convert mine, but I see there is a door label which I wasn't aware of.
But, there's a dash switch located to the left of the steering column that I don't recognize and can't see the label clearly. It looks like the tailgate switch from a wagon, which this car is clearly not. Can anyone help me with this curiosity?

Power windows were still a bit of a novelty then, kids, like me liked to push the switch and marvel at the window going up and down. Parents didn't like that, Cadillac's and Lincolns typically included a window lock out, Chrysler made it an option.

Kids still like to play with the power windows, and there is still a rear window lockout switch on my '07 Megacab. With kids being strapped tightly into carseats today though, my youngest can't reach the window control so I haven't needed to use the lockout.

The switch with the black bezel is for the rear window defogger. Two speed blower up or down, middle is off. The same bezel is used as well for autopilot, convertible top, tailgate glass and rear ac blower on wagons. Obviously there is not enough room there for 4 or 5 of those bezels across the dash especially if the car has ac, so rear blower, rear defog and convertible top switches sometimes were seen on the bottom of the dash with label bezels like the flasher switch on that car.
See the pic below of my wagon dash with rear ac and autopilot - the rear ac blower switch is beside the flasher switch:
The power window safety switch spoken of is VERY rare, and consists of a very small toggle located roughly where the flasher switch is on that car. That car does not have that option. My 66 Monaco 440 4 speed car does, and if you look closely at my sig pic you can see it poking out just beside the rim of the steering wheel.
The power window safety switch turns off ALL the power windows (front passenger side too) except for the drivers 4 gang switch.
Again - super rare - I've never seen another car with it.
The only rear defogger switch I had seen in the past is located to the right of the steering wheel under the HVAC controls. Thinking back now I wonder if that means that the car has the rear heat option, looking at Peter's post I see that would in fact be the case.
I must beg to differ - respectfully of course! I looked and it doesn't. Plus, my wagon as a survivor has had the rear blower switch to the left of the column.
In my experience, 1965 - 1966 Chryslers with Rear Heat cars have a dedicated combination blower switch and vacuum-style push-button on the dash just below the HVAC controls, and as well, in the engine bay they have a whole T-shunt and vacuum controlled water valve that sits on the inner fender that connects to the heater hoses. There's no evidence of either the dash switch or the shunts assembly on that particular car. I am not familiar with how the option is presented on tne dash of Plymouth and Dodge C bodies for 65/66... it shows that it's available in the service manual, I've never seen one though.
Here's a pic of a Rear Heat equipped car - you can just see the extra chrome switch and push button assembly under the heater controls:
Here's a pick of the rear heat stuff on the inner fender:
Here's a pic (really bad, sorry) showing the rear heat switch and vacuum switch with the bezel (you can just see the back of the bezel from behind the wiring) that would be in the dash just under the regular HVAC controls. Just like the other big switches to the left of the column, a special hole was cut in the dash to accomodate that assembly:
Also, I think cars optioned with rear heat also have the spare tire over to the right side of the trunk floor like convertibles and Canadian cars. The rear heater core box and blower assembly has a fairly large box, as well there's ducting to both the rear window and under the seat. It all is quite large, interfering with the storage of the spare tire, and you can see it when you stand behind the car and look in the trunk. I can't see it in the trunk picture of that car. The rear defog unit takes up little more space than a 6 x 9 speaker with one 2.5" duct going to an outlet in the centre - rear edge of the rear window package tray. That stuff is small enough to make it harder to see unless you lean into the trunk and look underneath the package tray area.
The switch with the black bezel clearly says REAR WINDOW on it, same as my wagon. Perhaps it's not the original dash, and came out of a wagon, or maybe the switch was incorrectly installed on the assembly line and simply does nothing! Too much downtime to stop the assembly line to get another dash into the car... stranger things have happened!
So again, respectfully, I strongly suggest (assert? maintain? lol!) that this car does NOT have rear heat, nor the window safety lockout, and that black bezelled switch is in fact the blower switch for the rear window defog unit.
I have been known to be incorrect though, (many times!). I'd love to see hard proof to answer our questions!
Note too that the car has a 26" rad bolted in through the 22" rad yoke. Definitely some creative maintenance has been performed on that car. It's a VERY nice car too!!
