When you purchase springs from the manufactuer they have done all the homework. If you use a non performance spring on a higher lift cam,it may produce coil bind if the lift is too high. Coil bind will result in the dislodging of the keeper and when that happens the valve drops in the cylinder and...well i don't have to tell you anymore about that one. How many cycles have a set of springs have after even 50,000 miles?......LOTS i'd say.. Don't forget to add a zinc additive to the oil. If you buy a Comp cam use theirs...Lunatti...buy theirs etc. I used the Delco stuff for years and have never had a problem, but that's getting harder to find. I threw the container of it in a gallon of oil, sloshed it around real good and poured it over the cam, lifter valley then buttoned it up and spun the oil pump with a drill and mixed it up real good. I've put engines together for years and i've used STP to coat everything. I've been using the Royal Purple Assembly lube http://www.royalpurpleconsumer.com/products/max-tuff-synthetic-assembly-lubricant/ lately and this is the best stuff i've ever found.
