oh and that mancini bracket was totally useless for me.... I shouldve known since my stock bracket and cable worked fine with the added height of a 1 inch plenum spacer. even if I wanted to use the mancini, the cable wouldnt have worked, which is aggravating because the cable itself is long enough, but the bracket that clamps the housing ferrule down is in the wrong place for it to work, which is simply stupid, yet the kickdown mount is in the stock location.
ive decided that thing is not meant for a 65 and is a waste of 50 bucks. if anyone wants it, pm me.
I needed the mancini bracket and was actually pretty happy with how smooth the installation went. I didn't need the kickdown linkage extender or a new throttle cable but the two mancini brackets worked well for me.
question though, referring to preload, I assume thats as the arms start to move back/down, I cant seem to completely eliminate that. with everything set proper I have to push it back a little to get everything together. I set the vertical rod as instructed, and the horizontal one as instructed, but I have a little bit of preload.... how big a deal is that?
with a little preload on the horizontal rod it would cause the shift points to be a bit higher, so you can shorten the vertical rod a rotation or two. You have to play around with the height of the vertical rod to change the line pressure/shift point to get it to shift where you want: Mine shifts from 1 to 2 at 25mph, and 2 to 3 at 40mph when under light throttle. At full throttle the 1-2 upshift is close to 60mph, 2-3 at 95mph (I've got "highway" 2.76's it it and it shifts at 5,000rpm) .
yea ive done some work the past few days on it in free time, got adjustments set up ok, but things just arent right still. 1-2 low throttle is at 15mph and 2-3 is at 25... terrible. If I floor it leaving a toll booth pedal to the ground 2-3 is at about 50mph. manually shifting in 1st gear the tranny really doesnt like things around 3500rpm..... things still arent right. gotta keep tinkering (aka order the proper parts)
ive got the tall mancini bracket, Im just gonna have to go ahead and order the correct throttle cable, and try to find myself a longer horizontal rod, or get a new one and get the lever extension from edelbrock or summit or whoever. I butchered mine with my MIG to get it driveable without having to worry about detonation for a cruise night the other night... didnt have a lever extension.
I also installed my drop base and 3 inch filter, and have gotten a bit of a rough idle as a result, it stalled once on me. may have to re-tinker... hopefully the stock fuel pump is adequate

How much drop does the base have, and are you using an electric choke carb? If so, which one?
manual choke, and I dont use it anyway. the base drops an inch. I think it is just coincidence that this started happening when I put the new filter on it..... it always started stuttering a little bit when it got warmed up these past few days, and just the other day it finally stalled. good in park at 800rpm, bad in drive at 550 or so rpm. I have to hold my foot on the brake and the gas at the same time at a red light, and even then, you can feel the car rock with the surge. I just solved a vacuum leak with a new intake gasket (and intake) and it solved the idle issue, it wouldnt idle at all til I warmed it up myself with the gas.... and now it only does it once its warmed up. I did move my coil to the front of the motor near the thermo housing, but I kind of doubt its that. I dunno.... more issues. Guess I will recheck my float levels and see what I can find. Its not getting hot.
