Looking for a little help . During the motor swap on my '72 Newport . I noticed an 8ga black wire that I'm not sure about . On one end it has a factory looking 1/4" eyelet . The other end Y's to the bulkhead connector and what seems to be the dimmer switch. When extended the eyelet end reaches well past the front bumper . The Newport was partially disassembled when i bought it and I don't recall unhooking this lead. Any ideas ? Thank you in advance , Randy

i would first check if it is hot with the key on or off.maybe turn headlights on to see if it has power.if it has a factory ring connector there are only a few places it could go.it could run to battery .get your test light out.

Do you have a factory service manual? I would trace it through the wiring diagrams. Since you know the gauge, and the wire color, and know where it comes from it should be relatively easy to figure out what it is for.
Don't have the factory manual yet , but I do need to get one . And yea i probably should have done a little more than degrease the power steering pump. just geting anxious to fire up and my time is limited. Hoping to cruise this summer.Still have to paint car too.
Success. Wire was a hot feed for multiple items. Hooked to the battery and everything seems to work. Getting closer to firing the beast. Thank to everybody for the help.
