I am pretty sure the 318 was available in all Fury's. I could be wrong, but would like to see any info you have on the 383 as the base on the Sport Fury. I am putting together some documentation and it would be helpful. I am pretty certain I have seen some VIPs and Sport Fury's with 318's.
I just checked the Standard Catalog of Chrysler and 2 different 69 Fury sales brochures I have, none mention the 383 as being standard. There is mention of the 318 being standard on Fury III's. One of the brochures mentions that the 383 and 440 Super Commandos are options on the Sport Fury. But in the back it has a table listing: 225 (Standard) 318 (Standard) 383 Commando 2brl 383 Super Commanado 4brl 440 Super Commando
This would lead you to believe that only the 225 or 318 was standard. However the text that listed the 2 Super Commados doesn't specifically rule out the 383 2brl as the standard Sport Fury Engine. And I will admit that most of the 69 Sport Fury's I have seen were 383's.
Beyond that, to add some perspective to the 1,579 Sport Fury Production Number; there were 4,129 Fury III verts built in 69. And in 70 there were no Sport Fury convertibles and only 1,952 Fury III verts built, according to the Standard Catalog of Chrysler.

Sorry for jumping in, I have one of the 1970 vert. It has a 318. maybe someone can help me out ,my fury lll has hideaway lights. I checked it out very closely and it looks like the original, it doesn't look like someone added it. I tried to get the answer from Chrysler and they told me that it could have been a special order or someone could have added it on. I had this car for about 4 years now and I seen it about 14 years ago in front of a restaurant it was being used for advertisement and it had the hideaway lights then.Does anyone know if this car ,1970 fury lll vert. came with hideaway lights?

He's talking about the SPORT Fury. Base engine was a 383 in that model. Scott, you are correct that the 318 was in the fury series, but the sport got a 383. At least that's what my book tells me. Every Sorit fury I ever saw had a big block in it. <span class='smallblacktext'>[ Edited Thu Nov 17 2005, 09:14AM ]</span>
Robert, I think it is posssible, alot of weirdness was possible back then. Do you have a build sheet for your car? I would think the build sheet or fender tag could resolve this.
Steve, What book are you looking at? Sounds like something I would like to read!
Scott The book is at home. Just keep in mind Barnes and Noble has them, usually in stock. I forget the excact name. I'll post it tonight for you. Really good info. You other members should get one too and drewl a bit.
I also have Hollanders from 1954 to 1979. Invaluable!

Robert, I'm pretty sure you couldn't get hidden headlights on a Fury III. When I bought my Fury, I pushed the dealer pretty hard to get them without any luck. I had three "must have's" on my shopping list, I wanted a vert, I really liked the GT grill and I wanted a big engine. The best deal I could make was 2 out of 3. If I'd had any bucks left after buying the car I would have bought GT grill and done a swap. I just looked at an old copy of the crash sheets for the 70 Fury and if the prices shown are correct the whole grill could have been bought for around a $100. So maybe who ever bought your car did this or maybe had it installed after a fender bender. <span class='smallblacktext'>[ Edited Thu Nov 17 2005, 01:22PM ]</span>
MALBURN No the Fury 3 did not have hideawy headlights standard. Only Sport Fury and VIP had them as a base item. This is true for 69, 70, 71 Model years. But then again, sometimes you needed to know the name of the supervisor that installed the tail lights to get the right parts. Some of these older Mopars can have 3 or 4 possibilities.
If they were special order from the factory, you would have a special order tag under the hood, next to the ID tag. It would say "Special Order" and an ID number identifying the option. Chances are, someone got the itch a long time ago and did a real nice job installing them
