I am also builing a 440 was looking to use a 484 lift purple shaft cam the shop where i had this done told me the pistons would hit the valve if i used a bigger cam than stock just got my heads back with 3angle valve job hardened seats all new valves and springs total $504 DONT WANT TO RUIN THE HEADS AFTER THIS EXPENSE
If these are stock pistons, the only sure way is to mock the assembly up and put clay between the piston and the valves and rotate them, and see how much clearance you have got.On a GUESS basis,i would say,i have seen my buddy install a 513" lift cam and no problems,....this is w/the stock rocker ratio mind you.If you were running 1.6 ratio arms it would probably give you approx. that lift w/ the .484" cam.But i'll tell you ...ONE missed shift if they are close....AND IT'S ALL OVER!!!!!!

I had the MP .484 cam in my engine originally. Never got it to run well with a stock converter so I swapped it out for a cam with a wider LSA. Much much happier.
