wow this is a great tech article! I have been looking for a good driver's side front turn signal housing that is not all corroded up like mine is, and now I dont have to. Thanks Leaburn:)
Good write up! I have had to do this a couple times before, sometimes it is the ONLY option.
I have also had a couple sockets that just became loose over time, with no real signs of corrosion. After some cleaning I was able to repair them by flowing in some good silver solder around the joint. The solder will not take as much abuse as the original press fit.
One of my tail light sockets (those 3" long metal ones you pull out from inside the trunk) has bag gripping fingers so it's loose- it doesn't ground worth a pooh, so I soldered a ground wire to the end of the barrel and attached that wire to the body. Do you suppose you could do that to the ones that are permanently swedged in the housings so that you don't have to replace the whole socket? [ Edited Sat Sep 18 2010, 04:51PM ]

In theory you can only if the socket is in good condition. This thread is geared towards corroded sockets and/or housings causing lighting problems. A loose stamped/pressed socket means corrosion in the housing,or a badly pressed socket from the factory.Either way it will need to be repaired.

Hey Lea
The Booger Man said you have the bulb orientation wrong. He was busting my butt about being a C Body guy. I told him I wasn't independantly wealthy like him.
