I, too, wish we had more diesel vehicles here. When I was last in Munich, that's pretty much all you see. We work on these things every day, and you couldn't pay me to put a Duramax in this car. It would fit better and be lighter, but they have some serious issues over 500hp. It costs big money to make them stay together. This car is a cruiser and a toy, but it isn't (nor was it ever) a corner carver. I have other cars for that kind of fun. So the weight isn't a huge issue. As long as it rides and drives nicely, I will be happy. Not much you can do with engine noise, but exhaust noise is definitely controllable with the right combination of mufflers. I ran a 15.69 @87 in a 6200# 2wd truck (2004) with 315hp at the wheels(stock with intake and exhaust). The 12v's were rated much lower stock. But with stock injectors and turbo and just some mechanical pump tweaking (think of it as messing with your carb(s) and timing) you can get over 300 out of them also.
LeftCoastErik wrote ... That woody wagon is super cool. I might have to find me one of those for a future project! Thanks for the kind words, and even the criticism. I got both of the same when I stuck an LS2 in my 1995 BMW M3. The purists hate it, but they can't drive around it. I am hoping there is an outside chance I can get it moving under its own power to get it on a trailer for a big diesel event in Redding, CA on July 10th. If I get it running I will get some video for sure.
I have a HolsetHX35 from a Cummins on my BMW! !thumb
I drove a Plymouth Voyager 2005(Dodge Caravan) in Germany with a 5-sp and 4 cyl diesel. TQ and no problem doing 32-35MPG. Cool project your vert-cummins. Rej
Since this thread has a bunch of action, I figured I would post an update here. Check out the blog for 17 new pics and a ton of progress. Here's a pic too!
Got some decent pics up. I got the dash installed and the 9-inch is done. Waiting on rear pads, but the brakes should all be bolted on and waiting for lines by Monday's end. Steering shaft is going to give me fits...but I will figure it out
Got the steering done and fuel lines run and finally got it down on the ground. Steering works nicely and the tie-rod angle is perfect at the ride height I am at. Probably going to section the oil pan just to be safe. I will get it outside in the morning and get a picture of it in the sun..
