I'm removing the stock 2 bbl carb off of my 71 Fury III 383. I got a good deal on a Holley 750 and aluminum intake. I'll also be switching to electronic ignition and headers/dual exhaust. Everything else on the car & engine is stock. I won't be racing this, but would like it to have enough low end torque to break the tires loose and would like it to at least sound like a beast. Is the 750 too much carb? Do I need to put more cam in it? What lift, duration, etc.? Thanks, Brian
PS. Any other C-body people in Vegas? Any Mopar clubs in Vegas?

The 750 will be fine, won't be the gas miser a 625 would be, but it should move out better.
As for a cam I'd stick the resto 383/440 Magnum cam in it. PN#4452783 450/458 lift with 268/284 duration. Should have a noticble idle while still being torquey.

Holleys are not much of a mileage carb... I would would maybe consider a thermoquad or an AVS.... the headers will help mileage...
My stock rebuilt 361 runs the 383 magnum cam, M-1 Dual plane, 1 inch 4 hole spacer, points ignition with Mallory ignition module, carter AVs and 2.76 gear.. I get almost 18 MPG....
BTW.. I ran a 3310 Holley 750 on my stock piston 400 with a 494, 292 cam... it was perfect with jetting and mine ran 12's.....

My engine was delivered with a Holley 4bbl and over the years the best it ever got was 12-14 mpg. Plus it never really pulled well at low RPM, if you nailed it at any speed less than about 15 mph, the carb loded up and flooded the engine. Many rebuilds and many different carb experts later this puppy is being replaced. I'm leaning towards Edelbrock with the hope it will solve the low end problem and maybe help the mpg. The mpg isn't really a factor though because the car won't get a lot of miles.
I'm not sure about the cam, I will have to rely on the Dock for expert advice. I've been thinking the Comp 268H with these specs from Comp:
High Energy Hydraulic Flat Tappet Camshafts
Hydraulic - Great replacement for 383 Magnum with 650-750 cfm carb., dual plane manifold, etc. Smooth idle 440, super torque.
you didnt say what intake ,i assume its a dual plane?the magnum cam is a good choice, however i would go with a comp xe 256 or 262 grind and a carter/e brock 625.you should change your valve springs and timing chain while you are there.a 625 carb will be more responsive off idle in a heavy car with highway gears.
That high energy cam that Bill mentioned would probably do wonders for that stock 383.This cam will probably idle like a stocker and still run up to 6000.Remmember, Baby steps,DO not overcam.Glen
