Since I'm new to Chrysler products I have a stupid question. I bought some gauges to monitor the vitals on my '66 300. I dont know where the sending unit for the oil pressure screws in. On a Chevy I can find it with my eyes closed, I looked for 10 minutes and couldnt find it!. By the way its a 440 from a 1968 car. Thanks!

It's way in the back, sorta off set from the middle behind the intake manifold. It's down on the main block, just ahead of the bell housing. I think leaning towards the right of the car. There is a plug on the left side you can use as well. Your car has a light, not a gauge, so it's quite small. It's about an inch tall and the size of a 1/2 dollar in diameter. 1 single wire goes to it. On that, it's the only wire back there. It's pretty open back there so it should be pretty easy to find. Try to use an old compact mirror or an inspection mirror to look back there.
You can use the plug on the left side to run the gauge and still run the light.
Charlie. . .No question is ever stupid. You have a reason for asking and you explained it. Nice looking car BTW. Want a white one?

On a small block it's at the top of the block right behind the intake manifold and about 3 inches from the distributor.Try and buy quality gauges.Even Stewart Warner makes good gauges but they also have a lower line and they suck.I have used nothing but Auto Meter and they stand behind their products.Glen

I just bought a guage set for my Newport. If i'm on an out of town trip, I want to be able to check the temp and oil pressure especially. The guys working on my car have the engine out right now, so they said it would be easier to install. I agree, no stupid questions. The guys here on the Dock are always glad to help out.
Thanks guys! I found it, right where it is on a Chevy. Go figure! But I swear it wasnt there the first time I looked. Now if I just had a socket that would fit the darn thing.
Which alternate plug on the left side are you refering to?
Let me get this one going before I buy another one, and dont tell the wife I was even thinking about it
owatajrkiam - I bought autometer and I chose the electric gauges so I dont have that little white tube carrying hot oil into the passenger compartment (Lesson learned!)

There's an 1/8" plug on the opposite side, at the sane distance from center. In other words, it's in the same place as the right side, but on the left. It's pretty flush with the block. It's either got a hex on the back, or is a socket head plug
Ahhhh, I see it now. I should really clean the caked on grease off of this thing. The oil pressure sending unit is now installed, the coolant temp sensor is installed (what an SOB). Tomorrow I hook up the wires, finish the dual master conversion on the brakes, and drop in the new battery. Should be on the road this weekend. Knock on wood!
