I may have a chance to get the Edelbrock heads sooner than expected. I would like the higher compression of the 84 cc heads and it will work well with my cam choice. But does this affect valve clearance or is this just chamber volume?
I emailed Edelbrock for answers on the stock manifold question. I also looked at many pics of the heads. I am pretty sure that the plugs will aim to the back of the collector tube. So to use these you would need short header spark plugs, 90 degree boots and heat shileds and to change plugs you may need to remove the exhaust manifolds. I may start looking at other head options. Indy cylinder head is only a few minutes from my home and their rep has made a great deal on modified OE heads. Half what Edel. would cost. I will update the site when I here from Edelbrock.

First thing first! Putting "log" manifolds on ANY performance heads is like putting a PINTO engine in a Corvette! USELESS! If you were to get Eddy heads with logs, 40 LBS of weight savings is all you will get from $1,500 investment. Logs CHOKE every head they are on. The only GOOD thing about logs is they hold heat inside, unlike headers. Re-think about switching to headers REGUARDLESS of head choice if you want a HP gain! Tony P.
For my budget all things are a progression. The engine is being rebuilt so I work on all things, engine mechanical first. Headers are in the FUTURE but for the now with the cost of all else they will wait. Upon that I did receive an email from Edelbrock tech Quoted........... "It is very difficult to say which manifolds will or will not work since there were so many different styles available on the 440 engines. The angled plugs are going to be in the same horizontal position coming out of the side of the head, but they are angled toward each other at 15 degrees. Thanks." I looked at the manifolds and it will put the plugs under the down pipe so to change plugs the manifold would need to be removed. On that I will buy a set of worked heads from Indy Cylinder Head that are going to save a little and still get a good set of heads.
