Ok this question might seem a bit lame but I like to check how the pros do it. When spraying a fusalage Fury with the alloy end caps, is it better to spray them separate to the fenders or as a complete unit? Also would you use any sort of gasket when refitting them?
I was thinking of doing them separate and using a bead of silcone sealer when fitting together again. (well before the joint where it can't be seen obviously).

Yikes! Silicone. . . Never. First of all, it's hard to get off and 2nd it's not needed.
To make sure they match, put them on, but leave them real loose. When the paint is cured, draw them up. This way they will match and you can get paint in between.
The 69 Fury uses a pot metal front bezel, and the 70 uses a fiber glass. I haven't taken apart any other C's. On the 69 there is a thin, hard plastic gasket that goes between them. Can't remember on the 70. When we painted my Fury the front clip was off as one piece, the fenders, rad support and front bezels were painted off the car as one piece assembled. The entire front clip had been previously disassembled to make sure everything was in good condition.
When the car got hit the fender had to be replaced. It was painted this Saturday. This time the fender and bezels were painted seperatly off the car. We decided to tweak the other fender and repaint it, but since it was straight and already fit, it was painted on the car. So I really don't think it really matters, as long as the painter knows when would be appropriate to do what. When my car was reassembled we left out the plastic shims between the bezel and fender.
In hindsite, I wish I had more time before summer, I would have liked to done some research and found someone that could have leaded the 2 together. That is one thing the shop didn't feel comfortable doing.
I guess it would also depend on what kind of paint you are using, as i sprayed mine seperately but it was a solid W1 white. Now if it was a metallic,i would loosen it as mentioned and put some shims in between them, and tighten them down after it is dry enough, then the metallic particles will lay down consistant with the rest of the paint. This way if you ever had to remove them the paint would'nt grab the fender part and chip or pull it off. At the shop we always paint them on the car, but spaced out with washers. A few times we have leaded them in for a smooter custom look. Oh, get that silicone as far away from your painting area as possible. Nothing ruins a new paint job faster than a little silicone in the air!

Ok thanks for the advice. The back bezels are off anyway so they will be done separate. I think we may do the same for the fronts too, since the factory fit could be improved upon. Plus I think it will give a neater appearence getting the paint around the corners.
I like the spray while attached, but loose idea especially for the fronts.

In metallic finishes we would sometimes paint the mating surfaces of the parts and edge the fenders before bolting the parts on. Then you can paint the whole shebang together and aligned
