I know this has been brought up before, but I need to confirm something about U-joint sizes. I have a '67 and '68 Fury... 318 and 383 respectively. According to my shop manual, the U-joints are the same size for all engine/transmission/rear end set-ups except for 440's. Can anyone confirm this before I crawl underneath the cars and start taking things apart...

I just had some work done to my 300 to make it "road-worthy", and I wanted to know what U-joint is used in my '67, which has the 440. I was supplied with a NAPA part #354 U-joint for my info. You might see what NAPA spec's for your cars at napaonline.com, just to see if they have info you can use.
I don't know why I didn't check napaonline myself. Anyway, it looks like the U-joints are all the same for the 318 and 383 for 1967. Part number is 306. Looks like it is for the 2 1/8" yoke. However, it looks like they made both a 2 1/8" yoke and a 2 5/8" yoke for 1968... U-joint part numbers 306 and 309 respectively. Apparently, both of these were available on either engine with no rhyme or reason for each application. Can someone shed some light on this? Is it possible to tell which one I have short of dropping the driveshaft?
There are 3 different u-joints used in the 8 3/4 rear. There was a 1330 style used in Imperials and some "C" models this joint uses outside snap rings instead of inside ones.It has a cup diam of 1.06".Style 7260 is a 2 1/8" joint with an inside snap ring.Style 7290 is a 2 5/8 joint with an inside snap ring also. Spicer/Dana p/n 5-1306x for the 7260 and 5-1309x for the 7290.1330 joint is p/n 5-213x. There is also a combination joint that mates one size at 2 1/8" or 7260 w/ the 2 5/8" or 7290 style so you can use the smaller driveshaft w/ the larger yoke or vise versa.#347 Moog or 20226 Federal Mogul. Then there are 4 different yokes also.Large and small/course and fine spline. These spicer joints are "x" hd and only cost a few $ more than the no name ones. The pro stocks in the 60,s and 70s were all using the same joints so i don't think our street cars are gonna break em with radial tires.Glen
As you mentioned, 2 styles: 7260 - 2 1/8" & 7290 - 2 5/8". Measure the width of the yoke to determine the size before pulling apart.
From what I can tell from the 69 parts book, big block autos got the 7290 and small block autos got the 7260. Then it got weird with wagons. I can't find my 68 book at the moment.
