Hey, I have a remittant problem I was wondering what some of you think.
Every now and then when I turn off my Newport and put the key in the steering lock position, my buzzer will start. The key will be in the ignition and the door will be closed, but the buzzer will buzz just the same. When that happens, as it did last weekend, my battery will be dead. That tells me I have a drain somewhere.

No inside lights on?
Obviously there is a contact in the ignition switch indicating there is a key present. But it's only supposed to buzz when the door is opened.
Start with pulling the buzzer out and see what happens. There is a little relay inside there, maybe the contacts are stuck together. You really didn't want to listen to that anyway

Like Steve said....there's a microswitch in the column that the key triggers to turn on the buzzer. It lays up against the Ignition cylinder so that when the cylinder is turned to the lock position & the key is still in it triggers the buzzer.
The final trigger is, of course, the door switch to ground the circuit.
The quick fix is to leave the key out, I hang em' on the turnsignal arm when they're parked myself.
If the doors are shut & even with the key in it shouldn't trigger unless there'sanother path to ground somewhere in that circuit. time to break out the meter & start humting!

The lights are not on, but the buzz contiues.
I don't leave the key in, regardless. Remember, I said that when the buzzing starts, my battery will be dead the next day. When I shut the car off, and there is no buzz, my battery stays charged. The drain happens whether the key is in or not. The buzzing is the indicator that something is amiss.
