MobStaffCar72NwYrkr wrote ... i thought that for a while... becasue my 74 and my 72 look awful similar but the 74 and up models dont seem to be considered fuselage... and after the imperial went away for 76 the new yorkers took that on and then the newports looked like the older new yorkers from 74 75... it just seems sorta like they gave up. kinda sad really.
The 1974 models went through a major restyle. The belt line was lowered and the window/door tops raised, giving more glass area. If you compare a 1968 Chrysler, 1972 Chrysler and a 1975 Chrysler, you will see the 1975 styling has a lot more in common with the 1968 than the 1972.
Under the skin, Chrysler strengthened the A, B and C pillars in anticipation oif rollover standards that were never implemented. Which is why the interiors of the 1974-78 models feel more cramped than either the 1965-68 or 1969-73.
Also the front suspension of the 1974-78 was a continuation of the 1965-73 Chrysler setup. If you are looking for torson bars for any 1974-78 C body, they will interchange with any 1965-73 Chrysler and 1965-70? American-market C body Dodge.
The "Formal Look" is an excellent label for the 1974-78 C bodies.
