Hey guys it's Rick (69furyII from old board). Got one for ya. Is the pivot on lower control arm self sufficient? Can you drop t bars out and mod the shock tower for room to put a coil over in there for header clearance?

BEING FROM KANSAS, I THINK YOU HAVE A BETTER CHANCE OF FINDING THE YELLOW BRICK ROAD THAN MAKING A COIL OVER SUSPENSION WORK ON A C BODY . I CANT SEE ANY WAY WITHOUT A MAJOR SUSPENSION REDESIGN THAT YOU COULD PULL THIS OFF. YOU COULD GO TO A RACE CAR FAB SHOP AND HAVE THEM MAKE YOU A ALL NEW CUSTOM FRONT SUB FRAME IF YOU GOT THE MONEY. WITH THE STOCK FRONT SUB THERE WOULD BE NO SUPPORT FOR THE LOWER CONTROL ARM WHERE THE TORSION BAR FITS INTO IT, AND THERE IS REALLY NO SHOCK TOWER ON A C BODY JUST A OPENING IN THE FRAME WHERE THE SHOCK GOES THRU. ON A, B, AND E BODIES THERE ARE BOLT ON COIL OVER KITS AVAILABLE SUCH AS ALTERKTION, MAGNUM FORCE. ONE REASON WHY YOU NEVER SEE C BODY LOW RIDERS (THANK GOD) WHATS WORSE DEMO DERBY OR LOW RIDERS .
My guess would be No, the pivot wouldn't take it. As I recall there is some slop in that mount all by itself. While I am pretty happy with the larger T-Bars on my car now, it would be interesting to know how a proper coil-over conversion would work. Although I think some high performance Edelbrock or Q1(?) shocks in place of my KYBs would get me right where I want to be.
Out of couriosity, any particular reason you are considering a Coil over?
All Caprice low-rider demo derby? I'd watch. [ Edited Sat Feb 18 2006, 07:31PM ]

SO HOW ARE WE GOING TO GO ABOUT ORGANIZING THIS DEMO DERBY SINCE TWO OF US ARE FROM ILLINOIS AND ONE FROM MISSOURI WE SHOULD MAKE THIS A MIDWESTERN EVENT, ROUTE 66 OR GATEWAY. I THINK IT WOULD BE GOOD TO INCLUDE ALL FART CANNON MUFFLER EQUIPPED RICE BURNERS ALSO. AND THE LAST ONE STANDING GETS THE HONOR OF BEING CRUSHED BY MY 1 OF 1 69 IMPERIAL DODGE POWER WAGON 4X4 ANY IDEAS OUT THER GUYS? ONE MORE THOUGHT WE COULD HAVE THAT GUY RICH CHRISTANSON FROM THE TV SHOW PINKS DRIVE THE LAST CAR WHILE WE CRUSH HIS CANDY ASS INTO THE GROUND, OR IF CHRISTANSON IS NOT AVAILABLE MABYE WE COULD GET GRAIG JACKSON,THEN WE COULD AUCTION OFF WHATS LEFT FOR MILLIONS

I have never had a C body K frame out next to a B body one, but I wonder if the K member that was used on " Booed Coddington's" show on the Max Hemi car (Magnum Force maybe?) would work with modifications

Yeah C-'s have front subframeslike a Crapmaro ( did I say that? )
However I have seen a guy over onMoparts that HAS removed his T-bars altogether & actually races the car. DB Dartmant if I remember right. says it's been that way for 15 years. If that's the case I guess it could work. He made a tubular K-frame in his pics with R&P steer. Lower arms were just held in with the pivot & nut. A-body Dart I think.
Not for me though! Unless it was an Alterkation style setup.
