I need some suggestions/info. I am going to customs up my c-body. I really wanted to drop a 5.7 w/ tranny in. I figure with all new guages and wiring it would plug right in...but i learned that they have security issues like key matching...also cableless throttle. Without spending the bank for the custom install kit is there another way to tackle these issues? If not hows about the 4.7...im not looking to burn the tires up and down but i would like a decient amount of power....a 5 speed auto would be awsome on a big c body. If all else fails a 5.9 and a a518 will do....but im looking for a little smoother running ride with that custom flare. thanks all

I would think the 4.7 would be way too little motor! Remember, even the 318 was avoided in a Chrysler until the Cordoba appeared in '75. Those '66 ragtops are HEAVY cars.
The 318 was available in other comparable C's during this time. The Chryslers were the Top End, so they got the Top End motors. The 4.7 is a very respectable engine. My dad has one in a 2002 4dr Dakota that weighs more than my 69 Fury Vert!! It moves it right along, and seems to have plenty of low end grunt. No idea what kind of wiring/compueter issues you will run into though. It does sound like a real interesting swap, and is one I have pondered for my 70 PowerWagon.

I think the biggest issue i would have to deal with is the electronic throttle. Im curious to know if I were to disconnect the unit and install a regular throttle cable if the stock computer will see any fault codes. If anyone has an awnser to that let me know. thanks

I'm not 100% sure but I thought I saw where you can get a carburated 5.7 now, you'll have to check it out. I agree about the 4.7 it has a lot of low end really gets up and goes off the line, pulls like a freight train!

Last I knew, they were still putting a cable in to the controller. If all else fails, put in a pedal assembly. I am sure, if you are buying an engine setup new, they'll tell you what you need. If you are planning a donor car, then keep the car until you have the project done.
As far as the key is concerned, that is in the body computer. It's separate from the engine box.
