Ok, I got some heads with my $100 318. The guy says they're off a 360, he thinks they are '72 J heads. They have been milled .060" and currently have no valves in them. Is there any way to get a ballpark guesstimate of the chamber size? I'm trying to math compression ratios. Thanks.
72 360 J heads ,casting # 3418915 will be 65.0- 73.5cc's with most falling in the 68cc range. these heads should have 1.88" int. and 1.60" ex. valves, and they will work perfect on a 318. The 2.02 valve is too large and the block has to be notched to clear the larger valve.

Watch yer Butt on the intake. . It may not seal with that .060 shaved off. I know that's an issue on the BB's and RB's.
Before you wet the engine, get it started and do a real quick vacuum check on it. Since the intake is wet on those, you don't want water to weep out into the block.
You could bring the head to a machine shop with an intake and an exhaust valve and they will do a measurement on one chamber,it will cost you about 1/2 hr labour. Why did they remove .060,? Thats a lot!

Well, I have the provisions for measuring chambers, I just have no valves. The guy had them cut that much because he heard 360 heads on a 318 drop the compression a ton. The intake is also milled to match...so in theory it should all work...I'm shooting for the highest iron head pump premium ratio I can reasonably get. This motor was a spur of the moment buy...a freshly cleaned and magnafluxed 318 block and crank, factory pistons, these heads, a 340 Victor intake and a bearing set for $100. My Dart had an ailing 273...couldn't pass it up.
