It seems that some guys on Moparts a while back who had problems with the big Hughes hydraulic cams had lifter bores that were shot. I called Kevin and he said they've sold a lot of them with no problems; you just have to make sure the lifter bores aren't way out of round. He says out-of-round bores are more of a problem with small blocks than big blocks because of the pushrod geometry.
Nevertheless, I called my builder today to make him aware.

No problem buddy! Just wanted ya to know just in case!
There was a lotta bad blood over that whole fiasco & yeah, like Dave said in the arcticle it did scare some of the "sheep" off but a lot of people still use Hughes cams & really like 'em. The whole thing boiled down to a block with somewhat worn-out lifter bores & the fast-ramp cam showed it. I think the cam they wee using was a mechanical & probably even bigger than yours, they were up around 700 hp there if you read thu the arcticle closely.
I think you'll be fine! Just things like making sure the lifter bores are in spec & the lifters rotate like they should are just the usual things that a good engine guy should look at when ya get into lifts that big. At least with this info you'll make him aware to check it.
