Does anyone know a chicagoland/mail order source for new rear springs? I bent the crap out of mine a few years ago, doing burnouts with five people in the car and a Ford 5.0 short block in the trunk. [for the record, a '66 4 door New Yorker with a 7.8:1 440 and a 2.76:1 rear could still rip 'em down the block] Anyway, I'd like to get new springs for it, preferably heavier-dutier. I was thinkin about going to a truck spring shop that my shop uses, but didn't know if i needed to provide spring rates or anything. Any suggestions as to a good high performance handling/more load capacity spring? Thanks
They're stuff is real good high quality. NEVER had an issue with their springs. They are not the "cheapest" out there, but I found you get what you pay for.
I had a set of 4 leaf springs made with the next grade up steel and they maintained the factory gate at the same time.
Eaton and ESPO are the 2 names that seem to come up the most. I would also give that local shop a look. 15 yrs ago I had a set made locally by a shop and they have been doing fine. Odds are they can look at the car and take some measurements, coupled with the wieght and make exactly what you want. The savings in shipping would be worth investigating!

Just go to your local spring shop and have them make up a new main leaf..I did that with my F-body and it works great.... if you bring it with the hangers on the front and back they will usually press in new bushing it too and reinstall the hangers.. this was only 6 years ago and I think it was $150 a side with the new bushing, u-bolt and everything ready to reinstall...
There is no sense buy all new leafs when it is usually the main leaf that has lost the arch..

As mentioned before in the BoaB thread... I bought my NEW main leafs at my local spring shop. CHEAP! They were located at another shop lying around for years and I sent my old broken springs with brackets and all to them.It took a while but the wait was worth it.They even assembled the sets for me,added an extra seconary leaf, and pressed in new bushings. CHEAP!

My "Fast Facts" sheet states the four door sedan tips the scales at 3955 pounds with no options. My '68 New Yorker is a hefty 4600 pounds with all the options.
