Sounds like somethings up with my power steering pump... makes noise then quits it if i cut the engine go into neutral and steer it a bit (while rolling), and then refire...
Was wondering if the pump from a 74 NYer will fit or if anyones got a good line on a pump?

try flushing out the fluid and replacing it with Lube Guard P/S fluid, works very well, I had a 1990 Dodge Dynasty that had a noisy P/S pump, added the 1oz additive and no more noise. Tom

Actually the process is quite simple. And low nerve racking
The worst things about replacing the pump is that darned spacer sleeve and the fluid mess. The rest is pretty easy.
You should use a 5/8 line wrench on the fitting if you can, or just replace the hoses all together. There are two hoses. One had a hex fitting on it, a male double flare fitting. That is your pressure line. The other is just a slip on return hose, 3/8 ID. There's only like 3 3/8 (9/16 Hes) bolts that hold the brackets to the engine and three more that hold the brackets to the pump. Once you have the mechanicals done, the rest is quick.
Fill it ONLY with a suitable power steering fluid. Don't use ATF. I've had arguements aver the years about this, but ATF shortens a PS pump life. Put the cap on and start the engine. Wait a minutes. Turn it off. Check for leaks and Re fill the pump as needed. Restart the engine and turn the steering wheel lock to lock. Hold it on each lock for a second. This forces the air out of the lines. Turn the engine off again, check the fluid level again, fill as needed. Re-turn the steering wheel lock to lock again. Check the fluid for the last time. Then of coarse just drive it.
You could run it up here if you don't have the correct tools. I can even get the pump pretty easy too. Lemme' know. I have a pretty light week except for Wednesday

Cool!... Yeah, if it's pushing fluid out most likely the valving is stuck inside or acting up.
Everything Steve said is right on but, just one thing. The last time I bought a PS pump they gave ya just the pump without the reservoir ( the housing around it that holds the fluid). You had to take a rubber mallet & knock the reservoir off & put it on the new pump assy. I dunno if that's how they still come but figured I'd warn ya just in case. In which ase you'd most likely have to change the pulley too I think.
If they do I'm sure Steve can help ya with it!
Edit....Stupid me, you were talking about getting another one off another car so none of that would apply! As long as the pumps are both Saginaw ( which they probably are & it was another big block you should be fine.

yeah i was going to pul it off a 74 new yorker brougham, but my buddy actually went and got me a napa rebuilt 1.06 saginaw with the resevior on it, for christmas, go figure... You're right though they ask you if you want it with or without the resevoir when you order it.
The resevoir doesnt look entirely like the old one in shape and i guess i have to mount the pulley wheel on it too...
Could really feel my arms gettin bigger just wheelin her around when the system quit LOL...

Well! That was really nice! Good to know they do infact offer them both ways.
As long as the main mounting points are the same & the hose hookups are in the same place & same fitting you're good. Does the pulley have a nut on it or press-on? The nut ones are easy, just key-wayed. The press-on's you need the correct puller which usually the parts houses have to loan/rent nowadays.
I bought a pulley puller tool a long time age & it just came in handy again...Daughters Power Steering failed on her Neon too. Must be the cold weather for all of us LOL.
