Are they any good? or a waste of time?....I'm looking for a clean dual plane for my 383. Leaning towards an Eddy Performer....but this Offy looks interesting.
The Offy's seem to work OK, my Dad has one on a 351 Cleveland 4V. That's kind of a special situation, those engines have H-U-G-E intake ports, and he wanted to keep the low-speed throttle response up. It worked. I think that's less of a problem with a big block that has more cubes and smaller ports, but it won't hurt you either way.
It's basically two single-planes stacked on top of each other, with the carb split front to back rather than side to side. The primaries feed the lower "intake" and are heated by the exhaust cross-over. The secondaries feed the top "intake" and are cooler. It's an interesting intake. It's probably worth $50-75 just to have something old-school and funky, but there are better manifolds out there now days.
On Dad's 351, throttle response and bottom end torque was great. He also ran Rhodes lifters to calm the cam down a bit, so I can't say it was all intake.
