ok so now i am running in constant discharge mode. since i have converted it to electronic ignition i was thinking i should do the later model voltage regulator and alt. has anyone else done this yet? if so could you help with part numbers? oh i have a 67 vip 383. There is a lo of info about doing this and its confusing

Well Matt, there could be a dozen reasons. You could have a just plain bad Alternator. Rewinds now are arount 75 Amp. It could be just the regulator too. Then there are the bulkhead connectors that tend to be problems.
When you installed the electronic ignition, where did you get the power from for it? Does it show any charging activity at all? If you connected the Electronic ignition to the wrong place, like splicing it into the charging system somewhere, that may have caused a component failure

VIP, write me an e-mail. I will give you the name of a mechanic who can tell you what you need to do. Without his permission, I will not write his e-mail address in this forum.
He is a Mopar expert who has helped me with eletronic ignitions on three of my cars. He can tell you what you will need to do.

The later 2-wire is really easy to comvert. You need the 70-up style Solid-state regulator & it's wiring plug & you add 1 extra wire to the alternator which is picked up near the 12V going into the Ballast resistor.
I've got a diagram I can send ya if you want. I did my own over 20 years ago to simplify it.
The new regulator just replaces the old point-type & you use the new plug for it & connect the wires from the plug to the old wires ( green & blue ) going to the old regulator, color to color. preferrably solder & heat shrink them. The other wire added to go to the Alternator can be spliced at the Ballast resistor at the 12V Ign on point ( the side of the resisitor with ONE Dark Blue wire, not the side with a Dark Blue/Brown wire). to keep wiring color correct use a Dark Blue wire in this case. the connection order at the alternator is as follows.....from The Battery wire the next field connection should be the new wire you just ran & then the next field should be the old Dk Green original field wire. This is the way the factory shows it. Some say it doesn't matter but the factory had a reason for everything.
