Hello...I just had the jack powder coated and need to know how it is mounted in the trunk...is it on the spare tire?? Or is it mounted on the right side of the trunk compartment??
Typically, Canadian sedans had the jack stowed in brackets - one over the right rear wheel house and the other back by the passenger side tail light brace. A spring was used to hold down the jack and bar by hooking the jack mechanism to a small wire style loop welded to the wheel house. Tightening the spring was accomplished by clicking the mechanism up until the spring started to be under tension.
The Jack Hook is bolted to the passenger side brace tsil light brace with a special wing bolt. Unfortunately that wing bolt is often lost and hard to find.
The tire and wheel assembly itself is held down to the trunk floor by a large hook bolt with a wing nut. There should be a larger sheet metal loop on the passenger side if the trunk floor through which you insert hook bolt. At the same time you stick the tire iron through that loop. The tire and wheel assembly sit over that, with the jack base sitting in the wheel's hub, and the hook bit coming up through the centre of the jack base. Tighten down the wing nut and you're all good to go.
