Hi all, I have a 64 new Yorker and want to put a shifter on the floor. It has pushbutton trans currently. I wanted to know if I could swap it out with a 67 new Yorker trans which is a column shift. Will it fit???? what are the options. Thanks
Yes --- The transmission and Torque Convertor from a 1967 440 will bolt directly to your 1964 413. If you only have The 1965 or newer Transmission --- it will never happen.
To make the upper half of this to happen in an "easy way" - you will need the 1967 Carburetor and all the linkage.
The Tail Shaft Assembly of The 1966 and newer Transmission will be needed and then a local to you Drive Line place will need to cut - weld and balance the unit --- which is now the correct length
Now swap out to The Correct Seats that are now needed and install a Console with The Floor Shifter unit.
This is about the same cost as Four House Payments.
When I needed a driveshaft shortened, the shop I used said they'd prefer to manufacture a new shaft instead. I was changing to 1450-style U-joints though, and they said the correct ends for those U-joints in the correct diameter for the original driveshaft were no longer available.
When you say "shifter on the floor", are you looking to install a console or do you just want a (aftermarket?) shifter on the floor?

You may be able to look into an aftermarket cable shifter that will work with the original 727... although it wouldn't look stock, it would give you a floor shifter My $.02
66 monocot thanks for the post I tried to see if mancini racing makes a shifter that will accommodate push button trans. They said there is none they know of. If anybody know of a shifter please let me know. thanks for info.

you need to look for an automatic console shift & linkage for a 64 Chrysler 300. heres 3 on ebay, you can see the console shift (and they are 413 cars)

I cannot say for sure but I believe the original tranny used two cables - one for gear selection and one for the parking pawl. If this is the case you should go '66 or newer preferably 70 or 71. This will not only work with most aftermarket shifters but give you "kick-down" on demand at any gas pedal position. Some earlier transmissions had to have the pedal booted to the floor to engage passing gear. Cable kick down is the best way to go. Read this thoroughly but I would use Boichillon over Locar any day of the week:
I have used the Lokar cable and it's a waste of money . Very cheaply made . Would never use it again . Cables are for GM's . Fairly easy to modify the stock kickdown .
