I'm put a Crane cam In my mild build 440 the Grind number is H-228/3200-2S-8 and the advertised duration is 280 / 290. What would you recommend for valve spring. thank you
I looked at the specs and you only need to be worried about the lift for coil bind and a street able spring pressure and yours at .480"/.494 is well within a hp spring which most manufactuer's will call a single spring with a damper. Dual springs are not needed as most stockish' street 440's don't see over 5,000 rpm. While the Crane springs recommended for the cam are usually the ones to go to i find this spring with a 428 lb rating to be a bit too high and the spring is a dual one so new valve retainers would be needed. You can't go wrong with the Comp Cams 911-16 single spring w/damper and is only rated at 367 Lbs which is easier on the rockers and studs holding the shaft as too much spring pressure will break the bolts. Here's a tip. Replace those bolts with Grade 8's (about $15). OK so here's a killer deal for every one to look at. 440 Source is selling off a whole bunch of spring kits. Reg. $69.95 for $29.95 a set. Looks to be a good spring and it will clear cams up to approx. .510" lift. part #200-1058. Spring pressures seem good. Only downfall would be these are off-shore but what isn't these days eh'. http://store.440source.com/Valve-Springs/products/160/ This is just my opinion and when it comes to valvetrains it is usually best to follow the manufactuer's advce.........then again,i haven't followed those rules....EVER!!
