Hi guys, I have not been on here in a long time, so long I forgot my password and login. Been really busy and I finally just got started on my Fury again. I did a mini tub on it 2 yrs ago and the project went on hold...."kids, work, house etc... Well im back on it and the plan has changed quit a bit. The car currently has a narrowed rear and 295-65-15 drag radials on it. Im finally on to the front end and i decided I would upgrade a bit and put this thing on a diet. I pulled the motor/trans last week and have the front sub frame blown apart. While i tore it down I weighed some of the stuff to compare to the new parts going on. The overall plan is to have a wicked fast street car that is still somewhat decent to drive. To get there we are going to do a turbo small block, with an overdrive trans and put alot of effort into saving weight and getting the suspension set up. The front end is getting converted to a mustang II with tubular a arms, wilwood disc brakes and QA1 coilovers. Here is a list of the stock parts that came off and the weight of the new parts going on.
Old Parts
A-arms,spindle,drumbrakes, front strut rods, 170lbs (left and right)
Sway bar 10lbs
Steering Box with pitman arm 41lbs
Other steering parts 14lbs
torsion bars (left and right) 24lbs
Shocks 4lbs
Grand Total of 263 pounds.
Mustang II Suspension
Brakes, spindles, a-arms 76lbs
Rack and Pinion 12lbs
Grand Total of 88 pounds
That is 175 pounds lighter on the nose of the car. there is still the coil overs that I need to add to the weight and prob 20-30lbs of material being removed from the subframe......all in all it should be a solid 175+pounds lighter. i will post pics as the progress moves along. The new motor also is going to bring the engine weight from 670lbs to 520lbs...so we already got another 150lbs there. As of right now we are looking at 325pounds lighter and alot more to go without turning this car into a stripped out drag car.

As Dodge proclaimed in '68? with release of the Charger, everyone else is building lighter cars, we just built bigger engines. (well something like that!) Good idea for the diet, my 300 weighs 4770 pounds with me in it, i'm going for the "more horsepower option" Keep us posted with progress pics please!

Not kicking your project but of course a Mustang II suspension is about 5X less substantial than what you are taking out so plan on driving accordingly...

I was wondering about that too. M-II suspension is used under a lot of hot rods, but it it substantial enough to underpin a C-body? Very interested to follow the progress of your re-engineering. Keep us posted.
If you're just going to toss that boat anchor big block and 727, I would be happy to take them off your hands.

I dunno - I have some concerns. I owned a Mustang II. I wouldn't put that under anything. I couldn't wait to get rid of it. But maybe that was just the car I had.

Sounds interesting and please post pics during the process. I guess the weight savings is great but not sure of the gains u will make in the driveability aspect after all the effort and fab work is done. I think taking a cue from what the b and e body guys are doing in the pro touring world would yeild better performance to a cbody than some old ford engineering that may or may not perform any better .i know 20 plus yrs ago stang ll susp was the rage and know many guys that used it so i am still curious to see you do it and by no means want to bash your idea.
I'm not to worried about strength. I have used mustang II in a lot of cars, The arms are good parts and not the little small diameter cheaper ones. If I manage to break these arms it means I prob hit something I shouldn't have. As far as handling It is great for a cruiser or straight line car. The part that really makes the diff is coil overs. I run a lot of Qa1 coilovers and have great results with them. As far as hitting corners.......def not the suspension you would want or the car I would have started with.
Following this thread for sure. I have been wanting to do the same thing but am concerned it may not be strong enough for the weight of my blown hemi. I see you taking out that bb and 727.. are you selling it?
