I am pretty sure that the three in the tree was standard on Newports probably at least until 1969. You had to pay extra for the torqueflight trans. I saw a 66 Newport Convertible with a three in the tree. Cool car.
My first old Mopar was a 66 Fury I 2 door post slant 6 three in the tree, manual steering, manual brakes. Great car.

On paper the 3-on-the-tree was standard on Newports, but that was so they could advertise a low price to get you in the dealership door. Almost everybody went with the torqueflite. A '66 Newport convertible with a 3-on-the-tree would be a rare find indeed.
PS and PB were also added-cost options on the Newport as well. When my grandad went to order his '66 Windsor (same as a Newport), the dealer refused to take the order unless he ordered at least one of them though! He got power steering.

I had a 66 Newport which did not have power brakes. It did have power steering, auto trans and AC. Another one that I wish I had kept.
