Does anyone know which year and models of C-bodies were fitted with gas tanks that had four vents?
The reason that I need to know is because I need a replacement for my '65 300. As far as I can find out, 65's never had a four vent tank fitted, but the one that is on now does. As replacement tanks are not available anywhere, that leads me to suspect that there is one ftted to a later car that can be used.

My '71 has four vents with the little vapor separator mounted in front of the tank. AFAIK the '72 and '73 also have the four vent tanks and vapor separator. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe '71 was the first year for the four vent system. Other than the number of vents, the '67 thru '73 tanks are all the same for 2 door and 4 door bodies (except wagons).

I was wondering if CA cars got the 4-venters earlier. So that answers my thought.
Contact with one of the replacement gas tank suppliers resulted in the answer that their tanks will not fit cars made prior to 1967. Considering that mine has a tank from '70 onwards fitted suggests they are wrong. Unless, of course, they say wont fit because '65's have a single vent tank, and replacements only have 4, 2, or none at all.

Spectra Premium has a great website for their products. Go to www.spectrapremium.com then select "eCATALOG", enter your vehicle info (well for 1967 actually) and you will find they have 3 tanks for the 1967-1971 300 The CR20A w/o vent .... CR20B w/2 vents .... CR20C w/4 vents
I bought the CR20B for my 1967 Newport and it was an exact replacement.
When I bought my 1966 Windsor (Newport) the gas tank had already been removed and I compared it to the original tank from my 67 and they were structurally different. I remember thinking that it may fit but wouldn't have been a direct replacement ... unfortunately I don't remember exactly what the differences were, but had they been similar enough I would have bought another for the rebuild of my 66, but because of the differences I did not. I mention this because its possible that your current tank is not from a C-Body at all. I will go out and take some pictures and measurements of my 67 tank for you to compare to your current one to see if it is in fact from a C-Body.

Interesting, those three tanks are also specified for a '70 Fury (exc wagons).
I don't know what a ventless tank would be used for, especially ones with the filler mounted low to the rear. A ventless tank would require a vented cap and I cn tell you from experience they don't work with the cap lower than the tank!
As for the 4 vent, I think it was used to satisfy individual State laws, California comes to mind. Everything else got two vents, one serviced the front and the other the rear of the tank.

Heres a photo of the tank that has been on mine:
The dimensions appear to be the same as the tanks on Spectras site. HadToBringItHome, it would be great if these can be confirmed.
Regarding tank caps. The one fitted to this one is vented. Theres no problems with it. Thats possibly because being between the rear lights, the filler is higher on the later models that has it in the bumper.

I don't think that logic holds when you accelerate quickly. AFAIK vented caps were only used on unvented tanks. That tank sure looks to be the same as the CR20B that fits my '70 Fury, the only difference being yours is 4 vents and mine is 2. I'm wondering if your tank is factory, maybe a PO replaced it for some reason and was only able to find a 4 vent tank. I may well be wrong but I don't recall environmental concerns influencing cars much before '70, so I would expect two vents.
