This is a first for me. If someone could share some do's & don'ts.
I found out the hard way, after I broke 2 trying to get them in the block. No paper with the rings stating this fact and the sales rep did not offer this info. So I had to buy a new set of rings and a ring file.

Yes......NOT for the timid! The easiest way is with one of those round disc ring grinders they make. You must take time doing it by hand as rings are somewhat brittle! Placing it in the bore is easy. If you already cut out the "ridge" at the top from the wear, it will be easy. Use your piston to level the ring in the bore. Measure the gap with feeler gauges to get the right gap setting.
It is bored out already.......right? Tony P. TONYPRO RACING!

Be sure to check the gap often while filing. I have done that a couple of times with a regular handfile, and you can pretty easily file too much. But now that you have almost two sets, at least you've got material

What kinds of rings are you getting that need to be filed?
Oh, I'm sorry, I thought it was a game?
Actually, I agree with the question. The rings I installed on the AMC 401 were all right at spec. I did not need to file a single one. I do know that this does need to be done sometimes.

The pistons are Speed Pro L2295F 60 and the rings came with them as a set. When I ordered the new set, I was told that they are over sized and have to be filed. It was a "Thanks for telling me now" kinda thing. They knocked off $40 as there was no warning.
