Ahh I thought I read the bar was bent. My Mistake. If the groove isn't too bad, you can probably get away with it the way it is.
Tell me about dirt. . . I brought this Green one home from the fields of the Mid west. I swear I washed an acer of dirt out of this car and still going. Grease wasn't too bad, but I did manage to kill two pairs of Rebochs and a couple of pairs of jeans and shirts in the process.
Now I work on it and just get a little bit of dry dirt on my hands. When you are all done, keep it clean under there. In the long run, it's easier on the washing machine.
It would cost a mint to have someone else do it all!! Plus they would not clean it up like you are. Unless you have a press, don't bother trying to chisel out those lower bushings. Find a local shop to do it. I took just the lower arms in and picked em up a couple hours later for about $35! Which included pressing in the new ones. I would have been at it all weekend at home.

I was going to say "no" on the question about the need to remove the torsion bars, but honestly, I can't remember! I did them on my Newport, the old '62 I had, and just this week on my B250 Van. I know the strut rod is held on by a nut at the back of the control arm, as well as the large one on the front frame, but I can't rememebr if it can be pulled without dropping the arm itself.

Nope, just looked yesterday while cleaning my garage. You do have to drop the control arms, and torsion bars, to replace those strut rod bushings on your car.

Sheesh Snottster. . . I said that while ago didn't I? You have to take the lower control arm out to get the strut rod out. That's why I said do the bushings then. They're already out and it's over with!
You should get those pressed in a machine shop. Or you can drive them over here and I'll do them for you. Heh
