For the last year or so, my left door has been taking a couple of tries to latch all the way. It doesn't bounce completely open, but it doesn't want to latch flush with the body. When I went to pick it up from the shop Thursday night, it wouldn't latch flush no matter how many times I slammed it. Again, it's latched, and it can be locked, but it's not all the way in. Any ideas? Suggestions? This is, of course, on the Fury.
Try lubricating the latch assembly. Use some PB Blaster first. . . Hit it a few times with the blaster. If that works, then you need do chase it with a heavier oil from the inside.
If not, the latch is porbably broken.
Is the striker plate adjusted correctly? Is there anything in the door jam preventing it from closing right? Are the hinges worn out? Look for areas on the door and in the jam where the door may be rubbing. Sometimes all of these can cause it too.
Nope, doesn't seem to be sagging (which really surprises me, given the age of the car). Yesterday, it was closing and latching pretty well, and I was in and out of it several times. I do think I'm going to try lubricating the latch, though.
I'd lube it to see what happens. How does the latch part that's attached to the door look? If it looks worn you may need to replace it with one from a parts car.
